Prof. T.C. Narendran Trust for Animal Taxonomy was founded in 2006 as a non – profit organization aimed to serve as a common platform for persons interested in the science of animal classification. The trust promotes the quality and extent of skill and efficiency in taxonomy through instruction of courses, publication and presentation of study results, specimen identification consultancy, and recognition of excellence in scholarship and award. The Zoosyst Society of the trust is home to many individuals, from professional taxonomists to amateur collectors. In the words of Harvard University’s E.O. Wilson, a leading figure in contemporary biology, “master taxonomists” are “fading from the scene” and “are not being replaced”. The decline in the number of morphological taxonomists, who identify species by visual inspection, is a threat to the science underpinning conservation. In this context, TCN Trust for Animal Taxonomy serves as an association for exchange and guidance in animal taxonomy with a special emphasis to the Fauna of Western Ghats, India. Today, the trust is staying as a guest institute in the Western Ghats Field Station of Zoological Survey of India, Kozhikode, Kerala.

VISION
To popularize the science of animal taxonomy, create a strong taxonomic knowledge base through capacity building by generating adequately trained taxonomists of international acceptance and caliber, and to develop taxonomic expertise for all animal groups found in India, crucial to understanding and conserving the faunal diversity of our country.
