MOHD. KAMIL USMANI, HIRDESH KUMAR AND SHOEB MOHAMMAD NAIKU 55-63
ABSTRACT: A comparative study of phallic complex was under taken in 10 species representing 10 genera belonging to the family Acrididae and Catantopidae. Its taxonomic significance is shown. Shield or bridge shaped condition of epiphallus; presence or absence of dorso-lateral appendages and oval sclerites on epiphallus; narrow condition of bridge, mono, bi-and trilobate condition of lophi of epiphallus, length of lateral lophi of epiphallic membrane, shape and size of zygoma of cingulum, ramus of cingulum, ventral transverse thickening of cingulum, apodemal plate of cingulum, basal emargination of cingulum; divide, undivided or flexure condition of aedeagus, presence or absence of gonopore process on aedeagus and ectophallic membrane are the characters which seem to be constant within the family and subfamilies with characteristic differences in size, shape, thickening among different type species. The species studied are arranged under their respective subfamilies.
