Honourable Minister of Forests, Govt. of Kerala, Mr. Binoy Viswam inaugurated the Prof. T.C. Narendran Trust for Animal Taxonomy on 1st July 2006. Speaking on the occasion the Minister stressed on the role of taxonomy in biodiversity studies and urged to encourage research in taxonomy. The Minister said that political support would be accorded for conserving forests, a treasure trove of biodiversity. Dr. J.R.B. Alfred, Director, Zoological Survey of India, Union Ministry of Environment and Forests, who presided over the function stressed upon the need for documentation of bioresources. Dr. P. T. Cherian, Former Additional Director, Zoological Survey of India, Chennai,Dr.George Mathew, Senior Scientist, Kerala Forest Research Institute, Peechi,Prof. P. V. Madhusoodanan, Head, Dept. of Botany, Univ. of Calicut, Dr. M. C. Vyjayandi, Head, Dept. of Zoology, Providence Women’s College, Calicut and Dr. M. Madhavikutty, Sr. Lecturer, Zamorin’s Guruvayurappan College, Calicut spoke on the occasion. Prof. Dr. T. C. Narendran elaborated on the aims and objectives of the Trust. A book entitled, “An Introduction to Taxonomy” authored by Prof. T. C. Narendran and published by the Zoological Survey of India, Kolkata was also released during the occasion.
