(An event to celebrate Wild Life Week 2007)

In connection with the Wild Life Week Celebrations- 2007,  Prof. T.C. Narendran Trust for Animal Taxonomy and   Department of Zoology – The Zamorin’s Guruvayurappan College Calicut,  in collaboration with Zoo Outreach Organisation, Coimbatore, organized a  Quiz contest, picture message and slogan writing competitions    for the undergraduate students at  The Zamorin’s Guruvayurappan College Calicut, on 1/10/07. All competitions were based on the topic   “Biodiversity”. The Quiz contest focused on a  special theme : Amphibians..

On 5th Oct, a seminar on “Biodiversity and Conservation” was organised at the college. Invited talks by Prof. T. C. Narendran, (Emeritus Professor,  Department of Zoology, University of Calicut, Kerala) on “Biodiversity” and Mr. C. Radhakrishnan (Additional Director, Zoological Survey of India, Western Ghats Regional Station, Calicut), on “Conservation” were educative as well as informative. A special slide show on “Amphibians” was organized in order to create awareness about the factors leading to the recent decline of Amphibians.  Students in their Amphibian T- shirts,  organized a ‘Lighting the Candle Ceremony’ as a symbolic enlightening  towards  environmental awareness and also  took an oath to protect wild life.

Prizes were distributed to the winning teams of the various competitions. Of the 25 teams participated, first 13 teams were presented with Amphibian  T-shirts. A set of Amphibian packets and T- shirts were distributed to all the dignitaries on the diaz.

The programme concluded in the evening with a film-show depicting the wild beauty of  Sahyadris.

The event was reported by local newspapers and city channels.
